Thank you for 2021

Written by Chris Ward

It’s come to the time of year to reflect on our achievements, and take a moment to thank all of our fantastic staff, customers and suppliers for their support.

It has been another challenging year, our 25th year in business, and one that we would not have been able to conquer without the incredible team effort from everyone at Hemlow.

Here are some of our key achievements and memorable moments:

Employee development, over ten internal promotions have been made and we have launched the Hemlow scholarship programme, giving all of our operational staff a clear career path with training and mentoring from apprentice to director positions.

Employee engagement, this year has seen the start of our long service awards and the Hemlow high five recognition platform. They bring recognition to our long-standing members of staff and anyone who goes the extra mile in offices, roof tops or plant rooms across the country. Our Christmas parties may have been postponed but we did manage to squeeze in our huge summer festival, Hemfest, for all employees and their families.

Tech investment, our IT systems have been improved with a more robust infrastructure to support anything which is thrown at us, alongside continual development of our CAFM system to help us adapt and bring technology into everything that we do.

Building a best in class supply chain, our supply chain journey has started with a new strategic approach to supply chain partners, who can bring great service, innovation and share the same quality and environmental goals as us.

Sustainability, our goals to become carbon neutral are now cemented in our BSI processes, extending to our field operations and our supply chain. As our knowledge has grown we have committed to help clients, using our CPD training events and the launch of our carbon reduction database to identify and drive efficiency of the plant, which we maintain on site.

Operational support, the operations team is at the heart of our service. Our supportive strategic changes are being rolled out to increase management support in the field through promotion of lead engineers, online – through technology development and back office – through our new maintenance planning team. These changes are significant and challenging to implement, but we are committed to their implementation to provide increased support across the business.

Projects expertise, we have continued to take on bigger and more complex projects to add value to our maintenance base, including the Met Building project which supports our client’s ambition to transform their flagship London property.

Repopulating buildings, the summer saw a shift back to office buildings, we have adapted to our new way of working with our offices being a hub of ideas and collaboration. Meanwhile, our engineers and management teams have carefully managed clients expectations and anxiety levels as tenants return to the buildings, which we maintain following extended periods of home working.

Maintenance base growth, we have continued to grow through the challenging market place, with the year seeing us secure some milestone contracts including some very special trophy assets, our largest resident contracts to date and most significant education campus in the Midlands. Our regional coverage is extending seeing us take on a base in Manchester city centre to support our local team.

Recruitment, our focus is now on recruitment, with a range of new, innovative, recruitment strategies in place to find staff with the right Hemlow attitude to train and develop, supporting our growth and releasing staff for internal promotions which are so important to us as a business.

Wow, we have been busy, but we are full of ideas and energy for 2022!

Thank you once again to everyone for their support, wishing everyone health and happiness for the festive season and new year.

Best Wishes,

Chris
