Supporting National Apprenticeship Week

Written by Emily Evans

Today marks the start of National Apprenticeship Week 2020, and we’re taking a look at why apprenticeships are so invaluable, for both Hemlow and our employees. As a company which heavily invests in our internal training programmes, we believe that nurturing talent and encouraging employees to build a long-term career with us is vital. Apprenticeships play a fundamental role in helping us to build a diverse workforce, creating a culture where people are able grow and learn with us.

Therefore, we’ve developed our own take on apprenticeships, offering a range of training programmes that support people of all ages. They offer a route into a career for both school leavers, and people interested in changing their career path.

Many of our own Directors, Assistant Supervisors and Engineers all started out as apprentices either with Hemlow, or with other companies. We asked them how their apprenticeship led them to the career they have today, and how they believe this benefitted them. To see their responses, check out the action on our social channels.

As well as engineering, some of our apprentices have also taken office based routes too. James, our newest apprentice, has recently joined Hemlow as an Accounts administrator apprentice. Here’s what he has to say about his time at Hemlow so far:

James

“When I finished at college I worked in retail. Although I was earning money, I felt this had limitations for me to continue my studies, due to the time consuming nature of the job.”

“When I looked at the appenticeship route I saw it covered all of the aspects I wanted to achieve; studying to better my education, whilst earning money and gaining helpful office work experience.”

“The training and support I have received at Hemlow so far is extremely informative, and the staff are very friendly, making me feel welcome and confident. Learning new information can sometimes be perplexing, however I am always reassured as my colleagues are always around to help out if I am struggling. I am thoroughly enjoying learning new skills every day, such as the processes the accounts department covers for a business, and the importance of this on the whole.”
